【Tsujido Station / Night Walk】(Fujisawa, Kanagawa) A Station Plaza Lit Up by a Giant Christmas Tree

When starting a trip west from Tokyo by car, there are two main choices: the inland route or the coastal route. Personally, I prefer the route along Sagami Bay. Driving while looking out at the sea and sky simply feels good, and Enoshima seen from the parking areas along the way is always beautiful.
On this day, I drove west from Tokyo along National Route 1 and stopped at Tsujido Station in Fujisawa, Kanagawa, on the way toward the Enoshima area.
The area around the station seems to have become popular with young families and younger residents, helped by redevelopment, everyday convenience, and easy access to the Shonan coast. Walking around in person, I did notice many families with small children and plenty of younger people.
Around the Station

Given the time of year, a large Christmas tree had been set up in front of the station. People were stopping in their tracks to look at it and hold up their phones.

The station building is a typical suburban design. What makes it convenient is the covered walkway that connects directly to Terrace Mall Shonan — no getting wet on rainy days.

Families with young children were everywhere. Terrace Mall Shonan houses everyday staples like Uniqlo and Summit supermarket, making it easy to get everything done in one trip.

Generous parking and a large hospital right by the station — the kind of practical infrastructure that makes daily life look genuinely easy here.

After dark, Terrace Mall Shonan takes on a different character — lit up against the night sky alongside the Christmas tree, it feels lively and welcoming.

The building on the left houses a large fitness gym. It's easy to miss at first glance, but given the location right next to the station, it's probably well used.

Cars were streaming in and out of the multi-storey car park in a steady flow. Easy car access in a walkable station district seems to be another reason this area is chosen by many people.

After looping around the area, I made my way back to the Christmas tree. Even at this hour, there was no shortage of people around.

With Daiso and a range of other shops filling out the surrounding streets, you could easily handle most daily errands without ever leaving the area. Convenient, clean, and well put together — it's easy to see why this neighborhood seems to appeal to younger residents.
